It has a familiar theme - a dystopian account of consumerism - but somehow I didn't find it as gripping as usual. As far as an intro to his work, I guess I'd say some of the earlier (60's and 70s) short story collections - the only one springing to mind right now being 'Myths of the Near Future'. That said, my favourite novels are definitely 'Crash' and 'High Rise', which are both wonderfully disturbing (and often hilarious) dystopias of modern 'lifestyles'.Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05277049342933763194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832270609830530066.post-45775955067634574972010-08-09T16:23:14.507-05:002010-08-09T16:23:14.507-05:00The...um...the ones I've read.

Hopefully the rest of the hive mind that is Happy Postmodernists (we may have more contributors than readers) will be able to discuss this more. Which of Ballard's books do you think is the best introduction? And of course, if there are any other postmodernists you'd like to see featured, let us know!Emilyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05953410678227270569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832270609830530066.post-85952591266646800642010-08-07T23:16:11.673-05:002010-08-07T23:16:11.673-05:00Just discovered your blog and very much appreciate...Just discovered your blog and very much appreciate your subject matter - not to mention your wit. I'm big fan of JG Ballard and wondered if you read 'Kingdom Come' (2006) and what you made of it. Thank you.Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05277049342933763194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832270609830530066.post-79419350442940670062010-08-07T15:42:41.717-05:002010-08-07T15:42:41.717-05:00Empire of the Fun?!
